EXPERIENCE HALAAL JOINS THE GOURMET OFFERING AT THE GOURMET SA SHOW

The Show, which runs from 28 – 31 May at the CTICC, is committed to showcasing Halaal food and beverages. Statistics confirm that 25% of the Western Cape’s population are Muslim, hence there is a large target market with a passion for good food and lifestyle. Halaal products will in future provide a pivotal portion of the world’s FMCG demand. “The Gourmet SA show is the largest culinary exhibition in the Western Cape and we are proud to add Experience Halaal to our offering”, says festival director Christine Cashmore. With increasing global awareness of the high standards that Halaal certification commands, the international Halaal market will grow in leaps and bounds. Halaal food is wholesome, pure and doesn’t contain any toxins; so consumers can embrace Halaal food because it can be eaten by anyone, including vegetarians, from all religious backgrounds. Therefore, Experience Halaal will be an ‘educational’ experience for non-Muslims looking at standards and quality. Halaal is a stamp of assurance which certifies and guarantees that the products command a consistently high standard of hygiene, quality, safety and sanitary conditions. The response to Experience Halaal from Muslim businesses as well as the Muslim community has been extremely positive, with the Muslim media including the two dominant radio stations being actively involved in leveraging this event. A huge number of retailers have also shown great interest, with Checkers, having already joined in the initiative. Other retailers including Lazat Muslim Cooking, Meezan – Shereen’s

Montessori, Cape Malay Consultants, Cape Malay Cultural Heritage Tourism Commission and Spice Mecca.
